HOME
Come riding on a rushing wind
Blow through our hair and touch our skin
I want to feel you now like I felt you then
Strip away my calloused heart
Set your arrow hit your mark
Bring me back to where love starts
Bring me back to where you are
Father I am running Father I’m coming home
cuz I cannot go on
Your child is running, your child is coming home
Back where I belong
I know you’ve heard this all before
When I’m down and crying on the floor
Saying I want you and nothing more
But I’m breaking in my heart tonight
I’ve tried to stand I’ve tried to fight
But cannot see without your light
No cannot breathe without you
Father I am running Father I’m coming home
cuz I cannot go on
Your child is running, your child is coming home
Back where I belong
When I saw you I was ashamed
You were pure and I was stained
But you ran to me and you called my name
There were tears of joy upon your face
Father I am running Father I’m coming home
cuz I cannot go on
Your child is running, your child is coming home
Back where I belong

On the outskirts of downtown Nashville, where Lafayette, Ewing, and 6th come to a head, there is a small bit of earth and grass upon which lies a church that is older than my Father, and his Father before him, and even his Father before him. For well over a century the good people of Nashtown have heard the Sunday bells ring as they swing from their perch inside this very church’s high, humble tower. Only the good Lord knows how many faithful hearts have passed in and out of that stone doorway, how many tired knees have knelt upon that hard ground, how many thankful lips have welcomed the elements of communion.
But presently, Wednesday at 1:17 pm to be exact, the gates are closed and it is empty. Today I would like to draw your attention to just around the corner. Nestled up closely to the south end of the grassy lot there is a white house, with a red roof, and aqua windows that is most definitely not empty at the moment. There is a line of people bursting out of the front door who’s eye’s are so focused and jaws so clenched that any on-looker could see that they want whatever is inside that aqua door. See, this house is not just any house, it’s a dog house… a hot dog house, hot DIGGITY dog house, and right now it’s the lunch hour.

So I jump out of my car and join the hungry ranks. I can’t wait to place my order. I can’t wait to taste that dog. Before I even have a chance to enter I am welcomed with a happy sight. A cowboy hot dog and a cowgirl hot dog with lovely dark hair are having the time of their lives doing some kind of square dance in the sign above. They look happy, they must of had a bite of themselves already.

Though the line was long I got my food fast, and in a few minutes it was gone, and I was satisfied. I was more than satisfied, I was happy. I felt like putting a cowboy hat on as well and doing a little jig myself. I would have for another one of those dogs. Now, I hesitate to describe the actual hot dog to you because I feel I would fail in the attempt. Let me just say that I’m not much of a hot dog lover, but these hot dogs were good, and I’ll leave it at that.
While exiting this high class establishment the owner, manager, mustard sauce applicater, and over all hot dog socialite yelled to me and my band of friends, “TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT US, TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW.”
When I heard her say this my mind started to reel. I immediately thought about this blog. I thought about you my readers… my friends. So before I left I grabbed a quick picture with the staff just so I could prove to all of you reading this that the hot diggity dog is hot diggity legit.

Until next time,
your friend,
-phil
P.S. If you’re in a band and looking for a good bass player the one who’s rocking the horn sign says she has a hot Gibson bass and is not afraid to wield it.
P.S.S. I hadn’t realized my V-neck was so deep. I’l remember to button up next time.

Good day listeners, readers and passers by,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine was nice, painfully warm, but nice. I have found that the Nashvillian summer and I have a hard time agreeing with one another. In fact, we are quite at odds. Almost every time I step outside into the steamy marshland that is June I find myself shaking a fist into the sky and shouting out random words and phrases such as “Why!?” and “How did it come to this!?”. In its defiant and unsympathetic response, summer, with a blast of thunder like the bellowing laughter of a German butcher, releases yet another downpour of hot, sticky rain upon my head. And for some reason, during these moments of uncomfortable defeat, I crave a frozen banana. Like the ones George Micheal sells in that banana stand on that show Arrested Development. I love those things.
Now, I feel as though I am painting my weekend with too dark a color. When I was able to find solace from the blazing sun things were great. I read, I wrote, I hung out with friends, I even caught the latest shreck movie. Many of you may think I’m a dork because of this, but I really liked it. There’s just something endearing about Pinnochio carrying around the gingerbread man in a baby carrier.
Anyway. It’s monday again, which means it’s time to get back to work. We’re tracking some more guitars today, among other things.

See, there’s me, tracking a guitar. The recording process is nearing completion, and I can’t wait to start showing all you guys what we’ve been doing. As the release date draws nearer (September 4th 2007) we’ll be leaking some tunes out here and there on my myspace and here on this blog. So stay tuned. I’ll talk to you all later. Have a great day.

Yesterday, as I was fulfilling my semi-daily duty of getting back to a new slew of online messages/comments, I came across yet another message from a listener who was requesting the chord charts for a song of mine called “Divine Romance”. As I read this humble yet forceful young man’s message I leaned back in my chair and exhaled a sigh that could be heard down the hall. Don’t get me wrong, in no way was I frustrated with the writer of this request. In fact, even the hundreth time getting one of these requests still rose up in me a certain sense of pride and accomplishment. The sigh was more of contemplation than anything else. You see, there are at least four websites that I can think of off the top of my head that would have exactly what this young man desired. Yes, there would be tab options, note options, chord options, transposing options, font, size, color…, but he came to me, just like the hundreds of others before him. So I leaned back in my chair, I sighed, I put my hands behind my head, and I thought.
“How can I solve this problem once and for all?” I asked myself. “It needs to meet the needs of the people but still be fun and unique.” Then it dawned on me. Two words that will change my blog, and possibly, the world forever.
“Interactive Learning”
So I created this video below. Mind you this is the first one. An experiment, if you will. In later “Interactive Learning with Phil Wickham” videos there will be guitars and singing, and maybe even some cameo appearances. So get out your guitars. Sit up. And let’s make some ROCK!

So here’s the deal,
I’ve spent the last four weeks of my life in a studio in east Nashville. Some wonderful people ad I have been investing and immersing ourselves wholly and heartily into twelve songs that will soon comprise my second record that is tentatively named “Cannons”. It’s been quite a rewarding process. One which I am sure I will expound on in a later blog. But for now I will leave you with a photo. I wanted to clear my mind one day of all the sounds and songs, so I took a little trip on a boat.

I’ve always liked boats.
