Today me and my friends Pete and Phil raced go-carts. This a picture of us in our trendy protective headgear. Pete has produced my last two records. He’s in the yellow shirt. Today we worked on a radio version of my song True Love. By “radio version” I mean we made the song a little shorter and a little more poppy than its original version in hopes that various radio personel might want to include it in their various playlists. Gotta do what ya gotta do right?
The other handsome man in the photo is an up and coming artist named Phil Danyew. Danyew is a talented young man and a long time friend. Be on the lookout for his music in the future. You won’t be dissappointed.
So the live recording in Portland last Friday was a tremendous success. Thanks again to all who were a part of it both in Portland and online. The recording of the night will be available for free download from this very site in the near future. We shall keep you posted on it.
Stay tuned,
Phil

May 14th, 2008 at 7:56 pmHey Phil. Haha, nice protective headgear. Radio version of True Love? Sweet. I’m sure it sounds great. They need to play your music on the Christian station in my area. Anyway, I’m really excited to hear and download the live recording!!! I didn’t get to watch the whole thing last Friday because it was late here. That’s so cool that it’s gonna be up for download. Can;t wait
God bless!

May 15th, 2008 at 5:42 amHmmmmm…
“Mr. Kipley and the Phil’s Go Racing”
That sounds good. Like a charming (if not slightly cheesy) old 1950 ish Disney movie title.
Question - (I’ve never gotten to do that so…) Unless that is some kind of yellow chain mail(not the annoying “you MUST pass this on or else” kind, but the flexible armor made of jointed metal rings kind) how does it do much protecting of one’s head? I just wondered - lol.
Also - Way to have a good attitude on the politics of radio, yes even “Christian radio.” Indeed, sometimes we do - “gotta do what we gotta do.” I’ll be praying the Lord blesses your “new” True Love single to be used for His purposes. Don’t lose heart! He’s got a plan and timing all mapped out for you and your ministry. Keep claiming it.
Prayers and blessings to ya - Melody

May 15th, 2008 at 9:06 amLooks like fun, but wondering too what sort of protection that headgear provides!
I was very blessed to hear you at New Song, Oceanside for the benefit concert. The way you wove old hymns into your worship music was awesome. What a refreshing night of worship! Thank you! Keep shining for Him!
Blessings, Angela

May 15th, 2008 at 9:43 amI just hope Phil that you don’t get sucked in into the whole music industry standard loop. I understand you need to make a living and stuff but let’s not forget that our main goal is to bring glory to Christ.
Don’t just make music cause you need to or write cause there’s a deadline. Remember your first acts in how simply wanted to write music from you heart to the Lord (like in “Give You My World”). If you put Him first (which you are) and seek to please Him only (not men), God will bless you abundantly more that He already has.
…Continue to use the gift and talent He has blessed you with bro and seek to know Him and to make Him known in your life and music.

May 17th, 2008 at 12:05 amGreat picture! I wish there were New York stations that played your music..actually I wish there were New York stations that played meaningful God-filled music period!
Phil, I have a plan. I say you sign up to win those Coldplay tickets for Madison Sq. Garden. If you win, you take me. If I win, I’ll invite you. It’s a perfect deal. This way you can also get a feel for the venue…my prayer is to see you playing there some time soon. It’s possible. All’s possible for him who believes

May 17th, 2008 at 5:26 amWhat’s going on this weekend in Dry Creek,LA? It’s only about an hour from our home, and I know my family would love to attend. We’ve gone there a few times for retreats.
Our radio stations play your music sometimes, but I took a trip through the Hill Country of Texas, and there was a Wickham song on every hour. It was so inspiring….with the sunny countryside and wildflowers. Thanks for blessing us with such beautiful music.

Well if your goal with your music is to get on the radio.

May 18th, 2008 at 6:11 pmPhil~ We had the most awesome time of worship when you came to New Song in Oceanside. We are still so amped about it and thank you once again for coming out that night and blessing us with your gift of worship!
I was very blessed that you gave all glory to our Lord. And like the above post said they thought it was cool that you left the stage unannounced while we were still worshiping to ” Oh come let us adore Him” … so awesome!!!
I took a cool picture of my girls hands. They went back to camp awhile back ( you did the worship) and wrote “love” on their hands. So they did it for the concert too! I thought I’d share it, just because I thought it turned pretty cool:0)
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff20/boutiqueolliegirl_photos/pw4-1.jpg
My girls are now singing your worship songs as they have learned to play the guitar. Thank you for your awesome example to them of being down to earth and honoring God in your approach to worship.
Oh…
I think all that goes on is with the music on the radio is that they shorten the song a bit. It has nothing to do with having a goal to get your music on the radio. You can still play the CD if you don’t want to hear the shorter version ;0)
Blessings, Angela

May 19th, 2008 at 10:37 amEveryone who is acting like phil is selling out by making a “radio version” of “true love” needs to get a clue. If changing the sound of a guitar and shortening a song to get it on the radio is “selling out” then everyone we have ever listened to on the radio is a sell out. I think it is admirable that phil is willing to make a few changes to a song in order for it to reach more people and be played more. Especially with songs that so strongly share the message of Jesus. Its amazing that phil is humble enough to comply with radio restrictions. I thank the Lord for his flexibility and desire to reach hearts. And if you really paid any attention at all to phil, his heart for people, and his sweet ministry, you would realize that comments like “you gotta do what you gotta go” are light hearted, and a little expression of his personality. Maybe he doesnt take his “music career” as seriously as sharing the gospel. I personally think thats amazing. thats all.

May 20th, 2008 at 1:28 pmHey Phil. I was reading some of your first blogs, and I saw that you commented on your own blogs.lol. How come you don’t anymore? Also, when is the concert at Solid Rock going to be available to download?
I’ve often wondered what your favorite some is. (of yours) if you could tell me, that would be great. Thanks! God Bless!

May 20th, 2008 at 1:36 pmIt’s because Phil is just too cool for us now. *sigh*
I remember when he commented MY blog. And when Shaun and Brody would comment and we would make up stories of what happened to Phil whenever he took really long break. I should go reread those posts/comments…

May 20th, 2008 at 3:21 pmHey Phil. I see you are going to Grants Pass in September. Any chance that you could come to to Solid Rock and play?

May 20th, 2008 at 4:48 pmmost of the artists that are on the radio DID sell out.
take Relient K for example.

May 20th, 2008 at 5:04 pmI propose that we all pray for Phil and use this venue as a means of encouraging him.
The time spent writing about your worries could best be spent in prayer
We met Phil a couple weeks ago at a benefit concert before he played. I have to say he was super friendly, talkative and very excited for the benefit concert cause and worship he was about to play for. I went away very encouraged about his approach to what God has called him to do.
During the concert, he constantly drew attention to the Lord, prayed throughout the worship and left the stage before the concert was over while we sang “oh come let us adore HIM” allowing us to praise the Creator of the music other than the musician himself( as a previouse post explained it
I think he is very busy and probably is very committed to his calling thus, not giving him the time on the computer to dialog like some others have. If you check out his upcoming performances he is scheduled for, you will see that he is all over the country and obviously very busy and probably quite tired at times.
I will be praying!
Blessings, Angela

May 20th, 2008 at 5:06 pmoops!… meant the Creator of the musician other than the musician himself!

May 20th, 2008 at 5:28 pmThanks Angela. Good points. And keep in mind that Phil does read this stuff and is either encouraged by what everyone is saying or discouraged.
Honestly, I have been around plenty of “radio edits” and I guarantee 98% of you talking about Phil “selling out” won’t even be able to tell the difference. And on top of that, if Phil is on the radio his chances of making a living playing music increases and so does the chances of him making more records. I think everyone on this blog agrees that is a good thing.
Just my thoughts.

May 20th, 2008 at 8:09 pmfor sure brody.
phil is amazing. his success brings such joy to me to see as a fan. from being a fan for a while, im sooo proud of phil and what he has accomplished. i cant wait to hear true love on the radio. phil is no where near a sell out..whoever said that needs to rethink that statement long and hard. phil deserves nothing but encouragement and encouraging words… his music has helped/changed many lives including mine.

May 21st, 2008 at 5:14 amwell i guess what we all need to pray for is that the fame doesnt get to Phil’s head…
and by the he seems to be so humble i dont think it will but you never know. but whatever, im gonna keep listening to him cos his music is so incredible.
anyway, i apologize to anyone that got offended by my comment about selling out. i apologize especially to Phil.
