Oh Canada…

Hey yall,

A few days ago I crossed into the foreign lands of Canada for the first time in my life. The band and I played in a “hockey-rink-turned-arena” outside of Toronto. Good times. Nothing like singing some songs with some good old Canadian folk.

We had quite a lengthy break during the day so we went to see a movie. I can’t figure out if I like “Ironman” or if its just really cheesy. Any thoughts? I have yet to see the new Narnia movie. Being the Narnia fan that I am my expectations were fairly high for the first movie, and sadly they were not met. I suppose it’s foolish to expect a movie about a book to rival the book itself. I don’t think I’ll be so hard on the new one.

I spent the last few days at a camp in rural southern Louisiana. No TV. No phone. No computer. Just me, the campers, Jesus, and a few canoes… Is that how you spell canoe? I highly recommend a trip like this every once in a while. Though I’m a little sore from an 8 mile canoe trip, I feel refreshed.

Now its on to Tuscon. Hope you all have an amazing day.

    Phil,
I loved the Caspian movie, the little extra drama wasn’t really needed and nothing will ever be as good as i’ve imagined for years but it was still good…and as embarassing as this is, it brought me to tears more than once. hope you enjoy it! oh yeah my husband and i were talking about them using “sailing on a ship” in the Voyage of the dawn tredder? have you heard anything on that? what other song could compare? and also, how many songs are written about reepicheep?

  4. Thank you so much for coming to Tucson. You were such a blessing to me and to everyone. People were in tears as we saw your love and passion for Jesus and could feel the holy spirit in that place. Keep using your gift for Jesus. You have had such an impact on my life and have encouraged me to draw closer to him. Thank you so much. I am praying for you as I know traveling and playing all the time can be exhausting, but Jesus will give you rest.

P.S. “Mystery” is my favorite song.

    P.P.S. I am your #1 FAN!!!!! ;-)

I saw Prince Caspian, Phil, and if you were disappointed with the first one, you might be a little bit with this one too as far as bringing the books to life. I found myself comparing this one to the movies that were done in the late 80′s that I grew up watching, but soon let go of that, and just enjoyed the great cinematography and story.
The movie is still really well done and there is a ton of sweet action. There’s quite a bit of witty humor in it as well. The one part that was a bit confusing and “off” to me was the little romantic tension they threw in between Susan and Caspian…all for the sake of young Hollywood I suppose. Overall, I give it 4 out of 4 because it was super-entertaining and I love the stories. The acting is really great too. Trumpkin is a great new addition to the cast.

I say give it a fair chance, Phil, and you will be pleasantly surprised and entertained. :) It’s definitely a must-see.

I haven’t seen Ironman yet, and even though I love all the comic book movies, this one does look a bit silly to me. Can’t wait for the next Batman movie though – “Dark Knight” – gonna be sweet! :)

Can’t wait to have you here in Colorado!

  7. Heh, ironman was amazing and you know it. :P
And Narnia was… good as a movie alone… not so good as a movie based off of a book. But that’s just my feelings on it. But yeah, keep the standards low. ;]
Yay for camping!! Glad you got away.
    God bless,
    Chrissy

P.S. Can’t wait for you to come to FL!!! Only 22 days left!! AHHH!!! :D

    Narnia
    Narnia
    Narnia

It was a good movie, of course it wasn’t as great as the book.
I don’t think Disney or anyone could ever create the unique essence of C.S. Lewis’s novels.

Just like the 1st movie, ya kinda replace what you remember from the book into what you just saw, kind of contradicts your imagination.
But, being a huge Narnia fan, it was another thrilling adventure……….and of course Reepicheep was awesome

I haven’t seen Ironman yet. All my friends said it was good though. I did see the new Narnia movie though… and I thought it was amazing! They did add some things that weren’t in the book… but it was cool to actually SEE it. I’m more of a watcher than a reader :\… haha. Anyway… I thought it was awesome :)

  11. Jennifer says:

narnia was fairly good… a completely random romance was thrown in though (just a warning…)

I went to the same Louisiana camp earlier this month for our church’s annual marriage weekend. Phil, you are so right; we all need a time to get away with little techno-interaction. It was so funny though to see all the participants standing on the big white porch holding up cell phones trying to get some “bars”.

Guys, it’s worth it when you get married to take a secluded weekend like the ones offered at Dry Creek.

    Talk to you all soon.

  14. amanda says:

  15. I’ll be seeing you in Tucson tonight!
Narnia was better than the first.

  16. Raquel TWG says:

    Haven’t see either movie.
But you’re the first person I know [I say it like if we're biffles or something] that hasn’t liked it.

  17. Jlynn says:

All I think of when I hear about the movie Ironman is the song. My uncle used to walk around singing I am Ironman so…anyway. I agree with the camping thing “once in a while” I am going hiking tomorrow in Estes Park Co. Pray I make it out alive a nature girl I am not.

  18. portorikan says:

3 thumbs down for Narnia flick… however, what is wrong with you?

Iron Man was awesome… Yes it was.

  19. Ellie says:

haha…. let me write that sentence over again: some people I’ve talked to liked it and thinks it was better then the first one. lol. there we go.
Also, did you only sing songs with one “Canadian folk”?? lol. thats ok. we know what you meant.

  20. Ellie says:

I haven’t seen “Iron man” but I’ve heard from a lot of ppl that it’s no good. I haven’t seen the new Narnia movie, but I am going to see it tomorrow. I can’t wait. So ppl I’ve talked to liked it thinks it was better then the first one. But then again, some ppl I’ve talked to didn’t like it as much. I watched the trailer, and it looks really good I just keep watching it. lol. here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499448/trailers-trailer-vi1793261849
I really want to go canoeing (no idea if that is spelled right… it looks right)sometime. I think it would be fun. Phil, I hope it doesn’t become a habit for you to write once every week. lol. jk. TTYL

  21. moderN forgot the ‘n’ up there

  22. i have yet to see the new Narnia movie as well i heard it wasnt very good. but who knows..i did like the first one though. but as we all know the books are almost always better than the movie no matter what book it is.
its cool that you had a good time being away from moder civilization, it gives you a chance to appreciate God’s beautiful creation. :-D

i want to live in the woods away from the evil world!

  23. Matt Huber says:

Aw, c’mon. Iron Man was AMAZING! The suit looked incredible, and we even got a glance at the Warmachine suit….

What’s up with y’all…such a good superhero movie! Daredevil, on the other hand…easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

  24. silvia says:

Hey Phil, well that trip sounds fun and relaxing. Hmmm, reminds me of a camp I went to work to. I loved that I could finally see the stars… Anyways… *You should put up some pictures from your trip to Canada – if you have any. And canoe is spelled like you spelled it…jaja…I had to google it. Or should I say the google? Tomatoe Tomato… Well, I too still have not seen either Ironman or Narnia, when and if I do I’ll let you know what I thought.

  25. Greg says:

Yep, Ironman very cheesy. If not extremely. But you have to see the new Narnia movie, definately not as good as the book, but still good. I think C.S. Lewis would be happy. The only thing is that this whole movie was basically just fighting,a little too much fighting. But none the less, still good. Have fun in Tuscon.
