Nativity set is a must. The manger stays empty until Christmas as a remembrance of the waiting, and then Jesus is placed in the manger on Christmas day.
Also, just recently found out about a popular Christmas tradition. It’s called the Jesse Tree. Look it up. I think it looks very cool, and I will probably try to get this going at my house this year.
I’m having to start my own traditions now that I’ve moved out of my parents house and have my own place. This year I was able to decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving. When we were at my grandparents, we put the tree up Thanksgiving Day, so I guess it would usually be as soon as we can after Turkey Day.
I would leave my lights and tree up all year round, but there’s something a little “off” about having Christmas decorations up in middle of a hot July…although they do have Christmas in July in some places…
This year I imagine I won’t want to put the decor away until mid-January.
Yo Phil!
We put up our decorations 1 week before Thanksgiving. Due to my wife and my utter contempt for taking trees down… get this: last year we almost made it into Spring Break Season in Destin, Florida (early March). That’s right: Valentines Day is so romantic with a lit Christmas Tree in the house.
My folks decorate circa the day after Thanksgiving, then take them down shortly after the New Year. The Christmas tree doesn’t come into the scene til a little later than Thanksgiving though. I’ll always remember trudging through knee-deep snow to find the perfect tree every year!
This year, my roommates and I are a little off our game in the decorations. We do have Christmas lights up year-round though. I think we’ll get a tree this weekend!
My family and I put up and take down our decorations at different times each year, haha. We usually put them up sometime after Thanksgiving. This year we started the day after Thanksgiving and we finished with decorating the tree last night. We usually take down our decorations sometime in early to mid January
This is always a debate in our house. Traditionally we get them up on the 6th (or thereabouts) and then leave them up till the 12th day of Christmas. But I’ve been finding that if you leave them up that long you tend to get sick of them, so shortly after new years day (like 2nd or 3rd) we’ll take them down!

Hey my sister and I put up are christmas lights today! We leave them up for a long time, last year we didn’t take them down until March.
We put them up on the 24th and take them down on the 26th. Were crazy!
My 3 year old is only turning on the Christmas tree and other connected lights that are on one of our power strips. Knock on Wood, he is not breaking any of our ornaments. Although he wants MORE on the tree.
Usually the day after Thanksgiving the outside lights go up. Inside starts getting decorated after that. Since we do a live tree every year, we usually wait until the first weekend in December to put that up. My daughter, I’m sure, will rearrange all the decorations more than once before Christmas actually arrives.
I am jealous of your snowmen. They have awesome scarves.
Oh yes, a Christmas album would be great!!!

Nice decorations! Very simple and vintage.
Ya you really should make a Christmas album, I would so get it!
That’s cute Phil!
We decorate a few days after Thanksgiving, in this case yesterday.
and I think we leave our out a weeek or two after Christmas.
And to think, I was just happy with this song of yours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQos7eawrXw&.
“…You should release a Christmas album…” – Yes, that would be awesome.
Since I am new to your music, I honestly have no idea if you have a Christmas album or not, but I am willing to get it…
Lovely snowmen!
We begin decorating the day after thanksgiving.
The inside decorations come down at the end of December and the outside ones (lights) may not even come down hahaha!!!
I love it though!
God Bless and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
As long as your wife wants it up bro =], trust me, word to the wise. Happy Holidays, and loving the videos.
There is a tradition of
Twelfth Night is when all Christmas Decorations should be removed so as not to bring bad luck upon the home. If decorations are not removed on Twelfth Night, they should stay up all year.
Why is it bad luck to leave the decorations up after Twelfth Night?
Long ago it was thought that leaving the decorations up would cause a disaster. People believed that tree-spirits lived in the greenery (holy, ivy etc) they decorated their houses with. The greenery was brought into the house to provide a safe haven for the tree-spirits during the harsh midwinter days. Once this period was over it was necessary to return the greenery back outside to release the tree-spirits into the countryside once again. Failure to do this would mean that vegetation would not be able to start growing again (spring would not return), leading to an agricultural disaster. visit projectbritain.com
It was also thought that, if you left the greenery in the house, the tree-spirits would cause mischief in the house until they were released. visit projectbritain.com for more information
Today people still feel uneasy about leaving the Christmas decorations up after Twelfth Night. Despite decorations now being made of foil or paper, and even though the tree-spirits are long forgotten, the superstition still survives. visit projectbritain.com for more information
But being a christian we don’t believe in that so please yourself ha ha just enjoy them for as long as you like
O H YAY!!
We start decorating on December 1st and everything comes down on January 1st. I can’t wait till Christmas! This year is gonna be the best Christmas ever!!!
Random thought: You should release a Christmas album Phil, that would be beyond awesome!
Merry Christmas Phil and God bless!
-Rebecca.
those are some handsome-looking snowmen!
i decorate the day of or the day after Thanksgiving…also the time i start listening to Christmas music. before that is too soon for me.
Got you beat. Thanks to our 3 year old, we have had our Christmas tree up, since about two weeks ago. Surprisingly, it is helping my mood and spirit.
