It’s Q&A Time!

qa1

Hey friends.  We’ve got a fun little Q&A thing that we wanted to start on here over the next week or two and want you to get involved.  It’s pretty simple.  You ask the ‘Q’ and I will select a generous handful of them and give you the ‘A’.  And not only will I give you the ‘A’ but I will give you the ‘A’ in the form of a sweet video blog.  How’s that sound?

So let’s ask away and by June 4th I will select several questions and start the answering process.  These can be questions about the new record, the old records, songwriting, life, worship, favorite breakfast items or whatever you think of.

I’m looking forward to hearing what you want to know.  Talk to you soon.

terribly sorry…lol i feel like an idiot but…do you have a secret love for some other kind of guitar? for instance i love rythm/jazz stuff like jimmy needham, jason mraz sort of stuff, but ther reason i started playing guitar was because of Flamenco. anyways my question is, do you have a style that you love to play apart from just the rythmic stuff and picking that you do in your songs, like more instrumental…less word based music.

Hey phil i have a question and comment if thats quite allright, ill get the quetion out of the way first for your sake :D I was wondering if there is ANY way at all, forgive me if this is completely naive of me, that you could send tabs of the chords or chord sheets of your music via email or whatever to your fans, i personally love learning new material and i love the diversity in your playing style and chord selections (i am sorta a new listener but from what i have seen, you stinkin rock.) my favorite is your Hallelujah cover and i have that one down but i would really like to learn your true love the way you played it in your live studio video up on youtube. im sure my comment i wanted to say is in there somewhere lol i just cant remember!!! oh and one more question…do you usually come up with the words of a song first or do you come up with a collection of progressions and then hit the books with writing a song? I sort of do both depending on when and how God gives me words…i just wanted to know how you do it!
God bless you brother, i know he always will! :)

    Hey,
I am only 15, but its sweet to see God using even though I am so young. So God has been helping me write a song, lyric wise, and I was wondering if you would at all be interested in wirting music to the song if I emailed you the lyrics? I know its a crazy request, but I just wanted to see if God wanted to use me to help you glorify him? I would ask you to just think and pray about it. Thank you!

    Hi Phil,
    Long shot here…
You wrote a song a long time ago (circa 1998-2000) and played it at youth group (Maranatha)..I don’t remember all the lyrics, but it had something to do with getting out of the boat and walking on the water. Any chance thats a song you wrote, or am I imagining it? It’s been a long time, but that song stuck with me..
Like I said, long shot. Always great to hear you play.

    1. When did you accept Christ? (I’m sure a bunch of people have asked that.)

    2. Have you ever had a struggle giving your talents to God and not making them an idol? What was the process God took you through for you to lay your talents at His feet?

    3. Are there times when a certain chunk of scripture influences your songs? Why?

    4. How do you stay committed and connected to your local church during the times of intense travel?

    Hey Phil!
I was wondering if you could run us through the process of how you write the lyrics to your songs. I’m an aspiring young guitarists but struggle with the lyrical part of making a song. Also, do you normally come up with the lyrics or the melody first?
Thanks and keep up the good work
    Dylan
