JesusFreakHideout Review

Recorded during a single concert in Portland, Oregon, Singalong by Phil Wickham is fifteen songs of live acoustic worship, consisting of both original pieces and hymns alike. The entire album is comprised of Wickham and an acoustic guitar, accompanied only by the crowd’s entranced voices singing along. Honest and beautiful, Singalong wonderfully captures the spirit and intense worship that goes along with a Phil Wickham concert.
From the first word to the last note of each song, the concert attendees follow Wickham’s songs nicely, singing every phrase and line right along. Arguably, the best thing about Singalong is the community of it – you literally feel like you are right in the middle of the crowd while listening. As with most live albums, the quality isn’t top-notch, but it’s fair enough by any standards. As far as song selection goes, Singalong seems to equally include tracks from both of Wickham’s albums, with a generous helping of traditional hymns scattered throughout. The songs seem to flow straight through the album, uninterrupted by track divides. Singalong really is a concert directly recorded onto a disc with no apparent editing whatsoever.
Don’t let the fact that Singalong is free to the public fool you; any listener would be hard-pressed to come up with a more real worship experience than this album. It is easily one of the better worship recordings of 2008. Effectively capturing his live show, Phil Wickham’s Singalong will quickly have you joining these passionate worshippers in song.
